You have ten seconds to think of your favourite marsupial.

If the answer is wombat you are in for a treat, if not just mentally correct all instances of “Wombat” to say your favourite marsupial.  Sooner or latter SpAn’s luck was going to run out so it seems I have to make a Wombat deck.  Problems hit home early, there is only one wombat in magic <please no changeling jokes>.  Here is said Wombat Rabid Wombat, when I first saw it I knew this would be a fun deck to build, what is there not to like about that card, lets look at it some more in depth.

First good point, it has “attacking doesn’t cause it to tap”, now more commonly known as Vigalance.

Secondly it is a 0/1 for total four mana, that’s efficient mana to P/T ratio.

Thirdly it is green, the best colour, also since it is not blue it means I am not obliged to build a deck with blue in it today.

Finally, with a picture like that who could not love it?

Now the Wombat analysis is over there seems only one type of deck that this fits well into.  One with a fair few enchant creatures <now called “Auras” generally>.  Now mono green and I get on like a house on fire, which is odd since green tends not to enjoy the destruction of houses on fire, but we shall let that slip for now.  Now you can see the deck list <assuming you did not get bored of my banter and skipped straight down to the deck list>.

Wombats

The art of being Rabid

Main Deck

60 cards

Sideboard

21xForest
21 lands

4xRabid Wombat
4xYavimaya Enchantress
4xVerduran Enchantress
4xGatherer of Graces
4xBramble Elemental
20 creatures
3xAncestral Mask
2xDragon Fangs
3xElephant Guide
1xExoskeletal Armor
2xFists of Ironwood
4xRancor
1xShape of the Wiitigo
3xAEther Web
19 other spells
(empty)

Now the idea is you get big dudes via the enchantments, and a few little dudes via Bramble Elementals.  And attack.  Could it be simpler, I think not.  You have nothing to do turn one except play a land, and generally trash talk the opponent, turn two you get a Gatherer of Graces and turn three you make it big and start putting on the pressure via attacking.  There are lots of ways to get trample and a lot of ways to get big, shape of wiitigo is there mostly as a party piece but is still rather nice to have in the late game.

Things to watch for are mostly destroy all enchantments that are quite common, so people can often build to counter you easily.  You can not get your enchantments back so the deck could be improved with some Dowsing Shamans to reclaim those lost enchants.  The Thran Golem is also a path that some people may be interested in taking but it is worth remembering it does not get the bonus for each enchantment on it, still this does make it a very good and extensible card for the deck, possibly to replace the Bramble Elementals.

All in all this deck quickly evolved from a wombat theme to a general enchantment deck, but there is a wombat there and it is a deck, the wombat just is not key to the victory, but still.  I hope you enjoyed this adventure into idiocy that I have brought upon myself in saying I would do this.
