After the earlier episode this week into whole hearted Tom-foolery with reflections, I had someone new pick a number for me, so thanks to SpAn it is fungus time today.
I know fungus works I have had a fungus deck for a little while now and it has been a good friend. Ok not strictly true it has been a good friend while it is not having teething problems with the mana, and I have always had some big mana issues with fungus somehow. My normal problems aside I thought I would fix it by building this deck online, it is mostly similar to what I had going but with a few differences, such as the doubling seasons, which I sadly do not have any of. But I’ll show you the deck and you can party about with me after if you want.
Well that’s the deck for you; before you go and rush to build it I’ll give you a few tips on playing it. Firstly get fungus on the table fast before casting Thelon of Havenwood, that way you can have some big attackers before Thelon meets his inevitable death at the hands of everyone else in range. A huge eleven creatures are not fungus which can sometimes cause problems however they are the fun additions, they give the deck the option to mill, destroy artefacts and enchants as well as beef up the fungus. The main removal item in the deck is Deathspore Thallid as it can get past indestructible creatures as well as other nasties like Wall of Hope. The main plan of the deck is to dump a lot of dudes on the table and attack. Though if you want some variation to this theory you can move more toward killing other dudes or attacking, or bigger dudes an attacking. But it tends to boil down to dudes and attacking because that is what green does and mostly what black does, though the latter does tend to have a lot of other fancy ways to do things. Fallen ideal is a laugh if you can get a creature though and then empty your fungus onto the table, aided by the Saporoloth Ancients and Doubling Seasons. On the subject of doubling season remember if you have two in play and put one saprolling into play you will get three saparollings total, the season does not double the original then double the double. It ONLY does the FIRST token put on <if more tokens are put on it does the same for one but for each token you put on>, but this does not damage it’s power level to the point that it does not make the deck worth having it included. But since fungus are nothing more than jazzed up rot this was never going to be a very long article since it is a very narrow theme, but still exceedingly fun as always. On a final note it is pre-release in two days so good luck if you are attending one and if not have fun leafing though the new set when it is put up on Monday.
